Hi all! Here is my strategy guide. It is a full glide path to reaching the coveted Legendary Rare pvp tier and beyond. There is a lot of non-obvious advice in here so do read this through!
It is applicable to everyone who cannot buy at least 30k DM or more. You will, however, need to be able to invest a lot of time into DH consistently for best results.
Right then. The long path to greatness is marked by several key milestones.
Milestone 1: Be able to clear the easy event (30e) island
Everyone starts at the beginning.
Ultimately to start with, the game is quite overwhelming. To start with though, you can’t do much better than just clearing through the trials one by one. This gives you time to level up your character and the digimon you get early on. Also clear the easy/medium Aegiomon trials when you are able to.
At this stage, your DM should go towards hard disk space and the upgraded training slots. Certainly don’t buy the DM eggs! Even medium term, they won’t help you all that much.
Note that if you use the all 9 skill then the +2 skill, your entire hand turns into wild cards. This combo is very important for killing bosses and getting it in fewer turns is a big part of progress in the game.
In this game, all enemies deal a raw damage which is decreased point for point by your defense. As a result, high enough defense is needed to make trials survivable and higher defense still makes them easier. The easy 30e event enemies hit for about 1400 raw damage and the boss for about 2300.
Read up in particular on how to digifuse efficiently. Otherwise you will struggle to level up your digimon and get that defence up without running out of bits. https://www.reddit.com/r/DigimonHeroes/comments/4j2yae/digifuse_exp_full_formula/
Essentially it is “base x multiplier”. Gold floppies have a high base and higher rank digimon have a higher multiplier. So you will generally want 1 gold floppy along with 4 high rarity digimon. There is also a calculator to work out optimum fuses for levelling.
Complete the daily missions where possible for that all important gold floppy, which is vital for efficient digifuses.
Save all decent ranking (king or higher) digimon you get from tickets and you can determine which are good a bit further into the game.
Keep the runes you get, fusing them up so they don’t take quite as much space up.
Start to make friends, in game, on the forums, and from fb!
Milestone 2: Be able to farm any PVE island (except maybe mono hard)
Once you’ve cleared milestone 1, you are settled in and the options are opening up for you in game. You probably have a big pool of digimon in storage, with a few duplicates.
In order to progress at this stage, you’ll need to start limit breaking. Read up on how they work if you haven’t already.
In the previous section I mentioned the importance of defense. The same continues to apply, only now you’ll want to start building mons you can limit break 4 or 5 times. A team with no limit breaks can only really hit around 2200 def at max level, but even a team of lower ranked digimon with 4 LBs each can hit 3000 def.
The event digimon are key here as you can farm the event until you get 5 or 6 copies of the digimon. For very special events you may not be able to get the very best digimon until you can farm the hard 60e island, but there should be some digimon you can get at least.
Alternately Metaletemon Queen from trials digivolves easily enough into Metaletemon God+. Craniummon from Aegiomon trials digivolves even better but is a bit harder to make.
Keep fusing runes up - but don’t go past god+ in case you need multiple lower rarity runes later on.
You should be starting to play PVP a bit and learning how it works. On season, you can get useful rewards. Off season you can battle your friends or your own team to get bits if you're low.
Keep reading up on the guides in the forums to further your understanding of how to manage your resources and build strong teams. Here where the majority of useful guides are linked: http://forum.digimon-heroes.com/t/general-guides-information-thread/4022
Milestone 3: Be able to reach SP tier in PVP
By now you should be able to farm any event you need to reliably. The goal now is to use the events and available digimon to build a team that can reach the higher ranks of PVP. SP tier is particularly important to start getting those burst capacitors every week.
Defense is the important stat in PVP. You will typically take 4 hits turn 1 and 5 hits turn 2 before you can even do anything, so 1 point in def reduces 9 damage overall.
Abilities with a 1 turn cooldown are also highly important as pvp moves so quickly, particularly someone who generates brown cards/heals.
To get to SP now, one needs a team with with really both of the above.
If you are close but not quite there, it’s worth using runes to get up there. Just use them sparingly on any mons you might not be using long term.
At around 2500 points, the very strongest teams can deal around 3900 raw damage. So if your def is 3500, you will take 9 hits of 400 damage before you can even make your third chain.
Start to spend DM more sparingly. See this thread: http://forum.digimon-heroes.com/t/getting-the-most-out-of-dm/9197/12
Don’t go crazy with storage - 300 slots is more than enough if you manage your space properly. See this article for some tips: http://forum.digimon-heroes.com/t/disk-defragmenting-or-how-to-get-the-most-out-of-your-storage-space/6697
Milestone 4: Be able to reach LR
So you can reach SP now, maybe even SP+. The next tier to hit is LR.
The principles are the same as for SP but the standard of mon required is much higher. Mons hit up to 4300 raw damage at LR. It is also useful to have some plan for dealing damage other than card matching, so that it’s easy enough to win battle after battle.
Ceresmon Medium is tremendously important due to her solid defense and 1 turn free healing ability. Definitely work on her when the current events are not going to help strengthen any of your teams or when you are done with them.
Your defense team will cost you quite a few points in defense (bleeding) but there’s not much that can be done about this as long as your def team is relatively bulky or has high atk mons overall. It is far more important to strengthen that attack team at this stage.
At this point your DM should go towards crowns and batteries when they are on sale for 10% off the 5-pack (72% off in total) or better. Otherwise save it as you can buy crowns/batteries for 70% of the price each when you run out of them, as long as you have the DM.
Milestone 5: Flashpoint
Congratulations! Once you’ve reached LR, you can get a lot of DM and access to regular LRmons.
Options to get stronger are now going to take longer. SP+ and LR mons from FP and GSP eggs are harder to get BLB for less payoff.
In particular, you need Flash events. You’ve probably played a few already.
Flash Island appears once every 3-4 weeks for 4 hours, and then again a few hours later for another 4 hours. Ultimately they’re unpredictable, however. You can sometimes get a bit of notice by keeping your ear on the figurative ground.
To get all of the flash mons blb - particularly Metalgarurumon, Man’s Best Friend - it takes at least 100 batteries, maybe up to 200, and it’s not easy to use that many even if you do have the full time each flash.
Carefully manage your DM to ensure you can hoard enough for the 100+ batteries. If you have the time, doing Infinity Tower can get you more DM.
Plan a team ahead. It needs to be able to survive the 80e round and it needs to be able to clear enemies fast. 2 sets of fast wild generators (9+2, Examon, etc) are useful. Perhaps save some runes for the team in case the enemies or bosses are just a touch too strong.
Having good friends helps. You will likely run out during the flash though. This can be refreshed by clearing the app data cache on your phone, or uninstalling and reinstalling the game (at least until this is fixed!). But it is better not to have to rely on friends.
Once you are the proud owner of a Metalgarurumon X Antibody, congratulations again! The game truly opens up now. No doubt you’ll probably have used it before as a partner but to have its awesome power in your own hands is magic.
From here, the game’s the limit. Do you want to reach Ultimate tier? Top in PVP? Get 5 LR runes for your fav mon? Try more tower? Go for it! You might even be able to amass enough DM for an entire DM egg rotation…
I hope this guide serves you well! Good luck!
