DM is a very precious resource especially for us F2Pers. It is easier to get than ever, but of course we don’t want to waste any as it can slow your progress in the game down. So this thread is to make sure everyone starts to think about how to use DM best to advance their game.
Digimoney Eggs: 30k+ DM for 6 copies of most of the SP+, 50k-80k DM for 6 copies of the LRs
I will start off with these as lots of people (including me...) make the MISTAKE of buying DM eggs early on in the game.
The strongest mons are the ones you can get 6 copies of reliably, so you can Limit Break them. This gives +50 to all the stats, and reduces the turn requirement for the skills every other LB.
To get 6 copies of the DM egg mons, it takes a LOT of DM. It's certainly not productive for new players to invest in them.
As you'll see below, there are lots more reliable options for spending that DM to build up a strong team and advance your game.
Training Zones: 500 and 1000 DM
Are these worth it? Well, the 2x zone gives 4 xp per second, which is approx. 350k xp per day available. The 3x zone is about 500k, technically enough to get a digi from level 1 to 40 in one day. So yeah, they're definitely worth it.
Extra Teams: 250 DM for the first team, 500 DM for the second, etc.
Here you’re paying for convenience. I recommend getting 1 more team just to avoid accidentally going into things with the wrong team because you have to keep switching them around.
But I’ve not seen much of a need for the 5th team slot, at least for newer players. As you’ll see below, that 500 DM can advance your game a whole lot more than an extra team slot will.
Batteries: 54 DM
1 battery essentially costs 54 DM if you buy the 5 pack when a 10% sale comes up (they’re not terribly rare and come up when flash events do). Batteries are extremely important and flexible for farming events, especially flash events. Which are seriously important! Have you SEEN Metalgarurumon X, Ancientgreymon, Lowemon and Holyangemon? The sooner you can BLB them, the better. And that won’t happen by luck. It comes from batteries and hard work and preparation… ok, and a bit of luck.
You also use batteries to farm mono medium/hard for gsp tickets (see below) and if natural energy is not enough for special events. Remember that 1 battery of 200 energy is 10 hours of natural energy.
Really, in my opinion, batteries are why DM is so important. More DM = more batteries = more flash tickets etc = more strong mons!
GSP Tickets: 72 DM (but 27 DM or less if farmed using batteries)
Price based again on a 10% sale on a pack of 5.
However! Since the last boss of mono islands drops GSP tickets, batteries can essentially be transferred into GSP tickets (given enough time!). You will also get lots of mono food and bits and exp this way so it’s a lot more efficient to farm gsp with batteries than buy them even on sale.
Mono hard has a drop rate of at least 50% (I’m not sure if there is a lot of data for this though). So this gives the DM figure in the brackets.
Disk Space: 87.5 DM for 5 slots
Hard disk space. 100 spaces or 1000, it's never enough in this game… Wait, I’ve already written this somewhere... http://forum.digimon-heroes.com/t/disk-defragmenting-or-how-to-get-the-most-out-of-your-storage-space/6697
This price comes from buying 10 with the 30% discount after running out of spaces. It is better than a 10% sale on a 5 disk pack (though actually not as good as a 20% sale on the 5 packs!).
Note that 6 disks (30 spaces) costs roughly 540 DM, which is 10 batteries! Disk space is valuable but those batteries could advance your game a lot further, depending on your position.
PVP Crowns: 108 DM
Again, buy packs of 5 on a 10% sale (which typically come once every 2-3 weeks at least).
Crowns are a regular purchase for players above SP. To understand their value we first need to know a bit about the pvp points available.
Firstly 80 pvp stones (i.e. one crown) is 270 points.
Now, 72 hours at 40 points is 2880 points from natural energy, and since we start with 80 energy that’s an extra 270 on top, giving 3150 free points (ish) up for grabs in total in PVP.
Hence it takes at least 4 crowns total to make it to SP+ and at least 9 total to get to LR. That’s ignoring pvp defense loss, assuming you use every drop of natural energy, and you never lose in pvp attack - each loss actually sets you back 20 points (-6 more for the first loss per opponent) since you have to then replay the fight again.
LR is quite lucrative if reached efficiently. 9 crowns is 972 DM so the 1200 +500 (from SP+ prize) is a profit of 728 DM per week. Of course, most people take several crowns more than this to reach the rank due to pvp defense team loss, time zones, and, you know, sleeping for at least 7 hours like a normal person.
Getting to SP+ actually has a slight DM cost to it if you use 5 crowns or more, as the prize is currently 500 DM, but the floppies may still make it worth it. And there’s also the SP+ digimon that comes with it.
And if it takes a crown or two to hit SP for the first time, that’s definitely worth it as well - the Burst Capacitor will help your teams to rapidly grow in strength!
It is possible to do similar calculations for hitting top 250, top 100 etc. But I won’t cover that here.
Continue Capsules: 65 DM
These are pretty expensive as far as items go. Especially as, if you lose by accident, it only costs a few hours of energy to try again.
So you shouldn’t really be buying these, I think. It's probably better to get batteries instead and try the island again. Plus, free continues are available regularly enough.
Free continue capsules do have value as they can be used to get further in tower, but it seems unlikely to recoup the cost of buying any.
Hammer: 108 DM
These are quite expensive now! They used to be 200 DM for 5 but now with the fact they don’t destroy runes, the price was hiked up.
It’s difficult to justify these now. How would you recoup the 108 DM (per hammer!) or advance your game by using them?
It’s probably better to avoid using them at all, except the few free ones we get. Plan ahead, give several low rarity runes on digimon if needed short term, and only give high rarity runes to mons you’re going to have a use for for ages. See the Runes Strategy Thread for more.
Gold Floppies: 81 DM
I’ve never bought floppies as Pvp throws a fair few disks at you once you reach SP+ and LR. But it’s the same assessment as with any other purchase: will it advance your game as much as the alternatives (some batteries, say) or will it help you recoup that DM cost if you buy them?
If you’re going to spend real money, great! It supports the game/devs.
If you do, make sure to get the best value. Work out the value of each deal, taking into account the value of the items that come with it. Oh, and get them while there’s a 25% bonus on the DM. You should find the starter pack (and if you can see it, the iron pack) are really good value for money even taking into account the items.
The other way to get DM is time, bits, and play. Roughly, we get:
375 DM per month from daily rewards,
25 DM per week from daily missions.
100 DM every 2-3 weeks for clearing the mono islands.
Clearing certain trials for the first time
DM from pvp every week.
DM from Infinity Tower every week for top 500 or better (this is a good enough reason to play it!)
DM from the Devimon Wheel.
The data* suggests an average of 4-5 DM per spin of the wheel (over a lot of spins). So, more bit = more spins = more DM!
